Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H) Speaks on the Continued Detention of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), has expressed concern over the continued detention of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, saying there appears to be no justifiable reason for his prolonged incarceration.

In his words: “We don’t understand what interest the authorities have in keeping him detained, because the case against him lacks any logical or rational basis.”

Sheikh Zakzaky addressed the allegations against Sheikh Abduljabbar, explaining: “If someone says a hadith seems to belittle the Prophet (S), and raises that concern, they’re accused of insulting the Prophet. But in truth, that statement was meant to defend the Prophet’s dignity, not to attack it.”

He further noted that similar misunderstandings in history allowed rulers and authorities to fabricate and manipulate hadiths for their personal and political interests. “In the past, rulers played with hadiths—creating and distorting them to suit their needs and deceive the people,” he said.

Sheikh Zakzaky emphasized that preserving the Prophet’s dignity requires confronting historical distortions in Islamic tradition. “Some fear that questioning a hadith threatens the foundation of the religion. But in truth, the religion cannot stand firm unless we expose and correct these errors,” he asserted.

He cited multiple examples of fabricated hadiths and added that such distortion has led some people to abandon hadith entirely in favor of relying solely on the Qur’an. “By God, relying on the Qur’an a thousand times is better than reading a hadith that claims the Prophet’s parents are in Hell,” he declared.
